Overall content |
Strategic Communication deals with how organisations and other stakeholders work strategically with their internal and external communication. It is an interdisciplinary discipline that draws upon theories of communication, management, marketing, branding and culture. During the course, students will be introduced to key theories, models and concepts of Strategic Communication. Besides theory, the course will also present case studies and examples drawn from various types of organisations. The aim of the course is to enable students to understand, reflect on and analyse the strategic communication and communication challenges faced by organisations and other players, analyse the roles and involvement of stakeholders, and recommend strategic communication initiatives. |
Teaching and working methods |
The course consists of a combination of lectures and discussions, and may involve group work and peer feedback. It is organised around a number of themes which will be stated at the beginning of the course. |

Expected workload in relation to the course:
Preparation time includes reading the course texts and solving tasks that require preparation outside of class. Other activities include the semester introduction, literature search, participation in seminars, evaluations, etc. |

Textbook: Strategizing Communication. Theory and Practice. Can be bought at Academic Book. Along with select research articles, the textbook is the curriculum of the course. |
Form of examination |
Oral examination Individual oral examination on the basis of the entire syllabus for the course. Scope The examination has a total duration of 40 minutes, consisting of 20 minutes’ preparation time and 20 minutes’ oral examination, including assessment. The student draws a random question at the beginning of the examination, which provides the starting-point for the examination. Following preparation time (20 minutes), the student presents and discusses the examination question against the background of the syllabus, after which questions are asked on the basis of the entire course syllabus. |

Evaluation- and feedback forms |
The course consists of a combination of lectures and workshops at which the students answers to assignments will be discussed in plenary. Further, the students will receive oral feedback at the exam. Besides this, there will be continuous feedback between the teachers and the students, and amongst the students, in relation to the curriculum, exercises as well as the form and content of the course. |
