| Detailed description of content |
All humanistic sciences have a historical and cultural perspective. This course will introduce some of the basic theories and themes within this broad field. We will focus on a global perspective on theories, concepts and analytical approaches within the subjects of History and Cultural Encounters. The course deals with some crosscutting topics, such as, Power, Globalization, Gender, Eurocentrism, Postcolonialism, and Nationalism. A core interest in the course will be how the past is used and influences the present, and how the social and political categories, which we take for granted in our everyday lives, are shaped historically and negotiated contemporarily. Portfolio exam The exam consists of a three-part portfolio developed over the course of the semester. The portfolio documents students’ engagement with course texts, concepts, and reading practices, as well as their ability to reflect on how understanding develops over time. The portfolio includes:
All three parts are mandatory and weighted equally. Provisional deadlines apply during the semester, but the entire portfolio must be submitted as one single file at the end of the course (uploaded to eksamen.ruc.dk). Submission of individual parts for feedback does not replace the final upload. The assessment is individual and based on the complete portfolio. |
