ACADEMIC CONTENT
Overall objective

The workshop module Project Management and Evaluation trains students to manage and evaluate projects in public and private organisations. It introduces students to the techniques used in planning, managing and evaluating a process of achieving project goals within given constraints. It facilitates the application of these techniques in practical exercises.

Detailed description of content

The teaching includes a mix of lectures with interactive discussions, in-class exercise-based group work, and group-based peer review workshops. Throughout the course, students will work towards completing their final group portfolio. There is also the possibility of additional guest lectures and presentations of project management by relevant development practitioners working in NGOs, and the private and public sector.

Recommended academic knowledge: basic or broad knowledge of global and development studies, and elements of the project planning cycle.

Course literature and examples of project management tools will be available on Moodle.

Overall plan and expected work effort

The course is worth 5 ECTS which corresponds to 135 hours, so please adjust your workload accordingly. Students are expected to attend class, prepare by reading 2-3 compulsory academic texts for each session and to develop their portfolios, as well as actively contribute to group work. Students are also expected to regularly check Moodle and stay updated with changes and information.

Evaluation and feedback

The activity are evaluated regularly regarding the study board evaluation procedure. The activity responsible will be orientated about a potential evaluation of the activity at semesterstart. ASSESSMENT
Overall learning outcomes

Group portfolio and oral exam

Permitted group size: 3-5 students. Examples of written products are exercise responses, talking points for presentations, written feedback, reflections, written assignments. The preparation of the products may be subject to time limits.

The character limit of the portfolio is:
For 3 students: 26,400-30,000 characters, including spaces.
For 4 students: 36,000-42,000 characters, including spaces.
For 5 students: 45,600-52,800 characters, including spaces.
The character limits include the cover, table of contents, bibliography, figures and other illustrations, but exclude any appendices.

Time allowed for exam including time used for assessment is for:
3 students: 30 minutes.
4 students: 40 minutes.
5 students: 50 minutes.

The assessment is individual and based on the student's individual performance.
The assessment is an overall assessment of the written product(s) and the subsequent oral examination..

Permitted support and preparation materials at the oral exam: All.

Assessment: 7-point grading scale.
Moderation: Internal co-assessor.
