ACADEMIC CONTENT
Overall objective

Advanced study course in business administration.

Via the course, students gain insight into the interplay between leadership and entrepreneurship. The course focuses on starting and running one’s own business, as well as on entrepreneurship in existing companies. The course provides students with insights into entrepreneurial leadership as a field that exists between two different domains, namely leadership as an entrepreneurial activity and entrepreneurship as a leadership process. The course also provides students with methods for managing and organising innovative opportunities in both new and existing companies and in both a private and public sector organisational context. The course also enables students to analyse entrepreneurial issues and develop relevant management actions to contribute to the decision-making process when starting their own business or solving tasks in an existing one.

Detailed description of content

The course focuses on the following activities:

Reflect on the challenges in the interaction between entrepreneurship and leadership, both procedurally and contextually.

Select, justify, and reflect on issues, methodological and theoretical approaches, and relevant literature in the field based on entrepreneurship and in various leadership contexts in new or established organizations, respectively.

Justify the relevance of selected empirical data and cases concerning entrepreneurial leadership in practice.

Analyze and argue for applying entrepreneurial leadership in different situations and contexts.

Communicate leadership-relevant knowledge about theory and practice in entrepreneurial leadership.

The course consists of lessons of 2-4 hours each. The academic field of the elective course is illuminated through lectures based on selected books, articles, cases, etc., with dialogues and academic discussions on the topics of the lesson either in small groups or in plenary on the course.

Based on a selected business or organization, each student identifies a topic related to entrepreneurial leadership in a specific context or situation, collects data, selects appropriate theory, analyzes the topic, and drafts a paper on the selected topic.

At the course, the students present a draft of the papers to their fellow students and receive feedback from an opponent, with a subsequent plenary discussion before submitting a finished paper for the oral exam. During the course, students must make at least one presentation of a theoretical framework of understanding, present a draft paper based on the student's data and analyses, act as an opponent to draft papers produced by one or more fellow students.
