When registering for courses, please be aware of the potential conflicts between courses or exam dates on courses. The planning of course activities at Roskilde University is based on the recommended study programs which do not overlap. However, if you choose optional courses and/or study plans that goes beyond the recommended study programs, an overlap of lectures or exam dates may occur depending on which courses you choose.

An internship can be done in a private or public organization.

A company should have a size that allows you to reflect on the organizational structure in the internship report. Companies with only a few employees cannot normally be used for internship.

The company should use IT in a relevant function. The company may also have links to your other subject.¨

The internship should be placed so it is compatible with attend courses and other activities in your other sunbject.

Finding a suitable internship host is normally considered as part of the internship process.

You should have a signed internship report by the start of the term. Consult the studenthub pages on internships with guidance as to how you obtain a contract. If the arrangements with internship host fails before the start of the semester you will normally be allowed to do a project instead.

The total workload of internship is 405 hours. You should allow approximately 100 hours for writing the internship report and the oral exam

The internship report should include references to relevant litterature

The students will receive comments and suggestions to drafts of the intership report during supervisions

• Knowledge and understanding of theories and methods in a chosen subject area within computer science

• Knowledge and understanding of how the subject’s theories and methods are used in practice

• Must be able to use and assess the theories and methods of the subject to solve concrete computer science tasks in practice

• Must be able to reflect upon the required professional competences to participate in and solve concrete computer science research questions in practice and must be able to reflect upon one’s own learning process and how the knowledge, skills and competences gained so far have been applied in working with the internship project’s research questions

Completing an internship at an academically relevant workplace for the purposes of gaining first-hand knowledge of typical work tasks and more experience with the connection between professional practice and the programme’s academic content.

The internship must be approved by the board of studies. Before the start of the internship, the student must apply for pre-approval of the company/organisation where they will be interning. When processing the application, the board of studies must ensure that the students will gain professional competences from the internship and the preparation of the internship project report which, in terms of scope and level, match the competences that could be gained from the ordinary study programme. The board of studies must also approve the scope of the internship so that it is possible for the student to take courses amounting to 15 ECTS in the same semester. If the application is approved, the Head of Studies will assign a supervisor.

The internship is planned together with the company/organisation where the student will be interning. As part of the internship, an internship report is prepared in which the students describe the academically relevant elements of the research questions they have worked on and how the students reflect upon the practices they have experienced in the field, their own professional learning outcomes from these and the relationship between practice and research in the area.

Project-oriented Internship

Oral exam based on the internship project report and additional material, if any.

The exam begins with a presentation based on the project report and any appendices, submitted together with the report, within a topic of own choice relevant to the research question posed in the report. The presentation incl. question may last up to 3 minutes
The presentation is followed by a dialogue between the student and the assessors on the basis of the internship project report.
There may be posed questions within the main area(s) of the internship report.

The character limit of the internship report is: a maximum 91,200 characters, including spaces.
The character limits include the cover, table of contents, bibliography, figures and other illustrations, but exclude any appendices.

Time allowed for exam including time used for assessment: 30 minutes.

The assessment is an assessment of the report and the oral performance.
Spelling and communication skills in the report are part of the assessment.

Permitted support and preparation materials for the oral exam: Course material.

Assessment: 7-point grading scale.
Moderation: Internal co-assessor.
