Detailed description of content |
Knowledge • Knowledge at the highest international standard of political dynamics, institutional structures and decision-making patterns in the European Union and international organisations (such as the UN, the IMF and the European Council). The focus is on the contribution of these institutions to multi-level governance in a globalised world, with particular emphasis on the influence of the European Union on internationalised and Europeanised public administration. • Knowledge of theories that contribute to an understanding of the institutions and decision-making processes in a multi-level context. • Knowledge of the legal and political aspects of decision-making and administration processes in a multi-level context. • Knowledge of the relationship between public and private players and institutions in transnational implementation. • Knowledge of how statistics contribute to illuminating a problem within a policy area. Skills • Skills to reflect critically on the contributions of various institutions and players to solving problems that transcend borders. • Skills to apply legal and political sources from various levels to the analysis of a concrete policy problem. • Skills to analyse EU policy and law documents and their importance to administration at various levels in the EU Member States. • Skills to find and select from relevant statistical data in different databases in order to illuminate a policy problem in a relevant manner. • Skills to interpret statistical analyses of issues within the subject area of the course. Competencies • Competency to handle theories of institutions and players within the subject field of IPAP. • Competency to find relevant statistics in different databases in order to illuminate a policy problem. • Competency to apply statistics to issues highlighted in the theoretical part of the course. • Competency to take responsibility for one’s own academic development. |

Teaching and working methods |
The teaching alternates between lectures and exercises. In addition, a whole-day interdisciplinary workshop with the other two courses of the semester is included |

Individual written take-home assignment given by the lecturer.
The character limit of the assignment is: maximum 31,200 characters, including spaces. The character limit includes the cover, table of contents, bibliography, figures and other illustrations, but exclude any appendices. The duration of the take-home assignment is 4 days and may include weekends and public holidays. Assessment: 7-point grading scale. Moderation: Internal co-assessor. |
