When registering for courses, please be aware of the potential conflicts between courses or exam dates on courses. The planning of course activities at Roskilde University is based on the recommended study programs which do not overlap. However, if you choose optional courses and/or study plans that goes beyond the recommended study programs, an overlap of lectures or exam dates may occur depending on which courses you choose.

Learning outcomes/Assessment criteria

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of innovation and entrepreneurship as a field of research.
  • Knowledge of the significance of innovation and entrepreneurship for companies and society.
  • Knowledge of the process characteristics and systemic characteristics of innovation.
  • Knowledge of the significance of management for innovation processes.
  • Knowledge of critical reflection on the role of employees and users in innovation and value creation.
  • Knowledge of similarities and differences between forms of innovation in manufacturing and service companies, and in private and public sector organisations.

Skills

  • Skills in carrying out analyses of innovation processes in a company.
  • Skills in evaluating and selecting methods to clarify issues on innovation and innovation management.
  • Skills in drawing up plans for and organising innovation processes.

Competencies

  • Competency to reflect on, and the ability to select the tools to organise, participatory innovation processes in a company, on the basis of innovation theory.
  • Competency to draw up models for innovation processes.
  • Competency to manage innovation processes in companies.
Overall content

The course will work with theories that can be used to analyse how innovation processes are organised in companies and organisations. Students must be able to analyse and explain how innovation can be organised in different ways in a company, and interplay with value creation in the company. There will be a focus on the role of management in promoting and organising innovation and entrepreneurship in the company.

Teaching and working methods

A number of lectures of up to two hours’ duration are held, and in this connection a number of exercises are carried out. The exercises may build on selected cases. For the exercises, students prepare analyses of innovation processes.

Expected work effort (ECTS-declaration)

Teaching in class: 15 hours

Student presentations, exercises, peer-review etc in class: 5 hours

Preparation: 67 hours

Exam: 48 hours

Total: 135 hours

Form of examination

Individual written examination in the form of a home assignment, with a duration of 48 hours.

The maximum length of the assignment paper is 14,400 characters, including spaces. The size specifications include the cover, table of contents, bibliography, figures and other illustrations, but exclude any appendices. Assignments that fail to meet the size specifications will be refused assessment, and one examination attempt will be deemed to have been used up.

The assignment is submitted immediately after the final course session.

Re-examination follows the same rules as the ordinary examination.
